Zucchini night


Finally after the worst July weather we remember during our six summers in Switzerland, the good weather seems to have finally returned. Strolling in town through our beloved Saturday market in Lausanne we decide, taken by the beautiful colour that they are showing on the market stands, to dedicate our night to The Zucchini. Antipasto will be Zucchini Flowers filled with Ricotta, Mint and Chilli and then we will have a Penne alla Carbonara with Zucchini. It takes some patience to prepare the flowers, you really need to be careful not to break them while filling them otherwise all your lovely filling will be dispersed in the oil. Also, frying is not something we are used to and there is a bit of tension on the preparation, but everything will go well. The flower will be perfectly crunchy and, even if a bit of the filling will run out into the boiling oil, they will keep a good shape - veramente buonissimi! The carbonara also will not disappoint, probably it would have need to be creamier but the combination of all the mixed flavours was lovely. Finally a lovely night on the terrasse overlooking the lake, enjoying perfect weather and an amazing meal.

You may be asking which wine we paired with this lovely treat? Once down in the cellar, I decided to pick a Spanish white wine, Verdejo El Transistor from the Compania del Vino Telmo Rodriguez http://www.telmorodriguez.com/index.php/en/brands/cebreros/27 from the area of Rueda. It was the perfect wine to pair with our menu of zucchini; it was drinkable but complex at the same time, absolutely lovely to enjoy with these dishes and on a summer night. I bought it from a Spanish supplier http://www.decantalo.com/es/ as I dont think it is available in Switzerland. It was a real pleasure.
